Mystery surrounds the sudden closure of Bargoed post office, with no real explanation as to why its doors remain shut.
The branch, on the town’s Cardiff Road, has been closed since Tuesday, July 4, meaning regular users of the branch have had to go to the McDonnell Road post office, Aberbargoed post office and Fleur-de-Lys post office.
Caerphilly AM Dr Hefin David has said services must resume “as soon as possible” and has requested a meeting with postal bosses.
He said: “The Post Office have been in touch with me to say the branch has been closed due to ‘operational matters’.
“The Bargoed post office is very well-used and cannot be closed permanently. I will be urging that normal service be resumed as soon as possible when I meet with representatives.”
A Post Office spokesman said: “Post Office Ltd apologises for the temporary closure of Bargoed Post Office branch, which is due to operational reasons.
“We are committed to restoring a post office service to the local community and are currently exploring the options available.”
Caerphilly Observer asked if the Post Office could be more specific, but the spokesman said the statement was all they could provide.
