Fire which broke out at Blackwood children’s home was “accidental”

News | | Published: 14:39, Monday July 31st, 2017.

An investigation into a fire at a children’s home in Blackwood over the weekend has found that the blaze was accidental.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) crews from Aberbargoed and Abercarn were called at around 8.20pm on Sunday July 30 to reports of a fire at the two storey Coed Duon House on St David’s Lane in Blackwood.

A large blaze broke out in a third floor bedroom in the building, but was extinguished by 9.08pm. No one was hurt in the incident with a SWFRS spokesperson confirming “everyone got out and was accounted for.”

The fire was initially thought to have been deliberately set, but a subsequent investigation by Gwent Police determined the contrary.

A spokeswoman for the force added: “The investigation found very quickly that this was accidental.”
