SILVERWARE: Gymnasts from Valleys Gymnastics Academy show off their Team Gym discipline competition medals

Gymnasts representing Valleys Gymnastics Academy (VGA) have excelled at a newly introduced discipline, returning from a competition in Caldicot with a haul of medals.

The discipline, dubbed Team Gym, sees teams of between three and five gymnasts compete as ‘micro teams’ and demonstrate their skills on the trampette, vault and tumble track.

Crumlin-based VGA received funding from the charity scheme Us Girls Wales to develop the discipline, and the gymnasts have repaid their faith with fantastic results from their first competition.

On Saturday, July 15, five teams represented the club and returned home with a host of medals after competing against nine other clubs from across Wales and the South West of England.

Competing at Level 6, the team of Libby Knapp, Lexi Melville and Kayleigh Radev took silver and bronze in the Challenge event, beating several older teams in the process.

At Level 5, Valleys Gymnastic Academy placed in gold, silver and bronze.

The team of Ffion Evans, Casey Lai, and Rosie Moodie took the gold medal, with the team of Nia James, Charlotte Gillies and Maddie close behind in silver, while Megan Hannam, Tegan Phillips, and Natasha Lesauteur finished in bronze.
