A youth service has celebrated its LGBTQ+ group’s first year of activity.

Caerphilly Youth Service’s Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Queer and Others group were established in 2016, and has 32 members.

Meeting monthly, the group offers peer support and friendship, sharing similar experiences and addressing feelings of isolation or discrimination.

Group member Bethany Duffin, 15, said: “I am able to express myself in a safe environment. I feel more confident, happy and accepted. By joining this group I have also found friends that I know will support me through anything.”

On Saturday, July 29, members of Caerphilly Youth Service’s Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Queer and Others group were joined by Nick Lewis, director of Umbrella Cymru, a sexual diversity organisation, and Blackwood councillor Nigel Dix to celebrate their one year anniversary.

For more information about the project, contact Blackwood Basement on 01495 235511 or email thebasement@caerphilly.gov.uk.
