Latest recycling figures show Caerphilly County Borough Council is the best performing local authority in the Valleys area with a 65.5% of all waste recycled.
In the 20 years since Wales said yes to devolution, the national recycling rate has increased from just under 5% to 64%.
During this time the Caerphilly average has increased from 4.2% in 1998/99 when Welsh Government started to collect data.
This year’s recycling rate in Caerphilly of 65.5% is higher than the Wales average of 64%.
Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, Cllr Nigel George said: “We continue to perform well when it comes to recycling, and I’d like to say a big thank you to all those residents across our area who are doing their bit to help us reach the ambitious recycling targets that we are set.
“There’s still work to do, but by continuing to work together we can further boost our recycling rates and help Caerphilly continue to be one of the greenest places in Wales.”
The Welsh Government set target is rising to 70% by 2025.
Can we believe the statistics though ?
Other valleys councils use kerbside recycling( where items are sorted individually at the kerbside ( eg: glass is separated from plastics and cardboard etc ).
These councils have lower recycling rates than caerphilly council.
Caerphilly loads all mixed recycling into one lorry and have the highest recycling rate !
Could it be they are trying to fool us ?
I don’t trust or believe Caerphilly council. Like you John I have seen kerb side recycling in Newport and it works really well, I don’t understand why we are stuck in the dark ages here in Caerphilly and still put all our recycling in one bin. This can’t be effective way of recycling. Here is a question if Caerphilly recycling rates are so good why aren’t every other council adopting this way of recycling?? Surely the welsh talking shop would impose it on our councils. The figures don’t add up.
Exactly – spot on.
If Caerphilly really are leading the way in best practice for recycling why aren’t the WG in Cardiff Bay imposing this on all other Councils ?
Someone is telling porkies……as usual
Another Caerphilly council cover up? Every other council does kerb side recycling so why are caerphilly so different? They seem to do the opposite to everyone and always come out on top by doing the complete opposite.
Clearly they think they are a law unto themselves and that theirs must be the right way.
The other councils are sensible in not following Caerphilly council – in anything !
That way they do things right and don’t attract publicity for the wrong reasons.
We must make Caerphily Council more accountable – after all it is us council tax payers who end up paying for their mistakes and wasteful ways.
Partly because im retired and partly because i have to fill my day. I have been looking at recycling schemes. By 2020 all welsh councils must do kerb side recycling. It seems to me that the other councils are carring out kerb side recycling now in order to get there figures up ready for the increase. Caerphilly as usual are putting there heads in the sand.
