An Abertridwr resident has recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Doris Jones, who lives at Abermill Care Home, partied with friends, staff and residents last month to mark her big day.
Born in Grangetown, but settled in Rudry with her husband Albert who was a railwayman. Doris spent much of her working life as a housemaid to Doctor Davis, a GP in Bedwas, helping him to bring up his four children whilst he was running a busy practice.
Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough John Bevan attended along with councillors Carl Cuss, Barbara Jones, John Roberts, Mark Harris and John Taylor.
Leah Mort, Abermill Care Home Manager, said: “It was wonderful to see Doris surrounded by fellow Residents and staff for her special birthday as she has no close relatives so we are her family now. I am grateful to the Mayor and other Councillors for joining us to make Doris’s birthday such a lovely occasion.”
Doris said: “I would like to thank everyone who came to see me. I was so excited receiving my card and telegram off the Queen and I really enjoyed the singer going down on one knee and singing to me. I enjoyed all the gifts and flowers and especially my birthday cake. I will never forget my big day.”
