Stagecoach bus drivers from the company’s Blackwood depot have raised £1,800 in memory of a former colleague who recently died from cancer.

Raising sponsorship by having their heads and beards shaved, the drivers donated the money to St David’s Foundation Hospice Care to commemorate Stuart Powell,a former bus driver from Blackwood who served with the company for 15 years before passing away.

St David’s provides hospice care to more than 2,000 people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Franca Nigro, Community events fundraiser for St David’s Hospice, said: “By taking part, the Stagecoach drivers, including staff, family and friends are supporting the work of St David’s Hospice Care, which means they are making a positive difference to patients and their families.

Nigel Winter, Managing Director for Stagecoach in South Wales, said: “We are always happy to support our staff in their fundraising efforts and would like to commend them on their recent fundraising for such a good cause.”
