Residents and schools have been told to keep windows and doors closed because of heavy black smoke.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Aberbargoed, Caerphilly and Pontypridd are in attendance at the fire in a garage off Commercial Street as well as a water bowser from Pontypridd.
