27-year-old man arrested over armed raid at shop in Gilfach

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery following a raid at a shop in Gilfach.

At around 9.20pm on Tuesday, March 13, a man dressed in dark clothing and with his face covered walked into JJ’s on Commercial Street.

He threatened a shop worker with what has been reported as a firearm and stole cash. Police have not disclosed the amount. The robber then left the shop on foot and ran towards the fire station

The shop worker was not injured.

Gwent Police said the arrested man was from the “Caerphilly area” and remains in custody at this time.

    If we had a proper Police presence in our communities – it would be a deterrent to those who engage in crimes such as this.
