Llancaiach Fawr Manor has been commended in the ‘Family Day Out’ category at the 2018 UK Heritage Awards.
The historic manor house near Nelson offers visitors the opportunity to experience life in the 17th Century and comes alive with costumed historic interpreters playing a variety of characters.
Cllr Sean Morgan, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Tourism, said: “Well done to Llancaiach Fawr Manor for receiving the commended award in the Family Day Out category of the UK Heritage Awards.
“The manor house offers a fantastic historical day out for adults and children of all ages and I am delighted that this has been recognised during the awards.”
Originally built in the 16th Century and later updated in the 17th Century, the Grade I listed building has gone through many transformations and historical events over the last 450 years.
At the height of the English Civil War, King Charles I is said to have visited the house to persuade its owner, Colonel Edward Prichard, not to change his allegiance, and the Manor regularly holds re-enactments of the 1645 event.
Last year, the attraction was again visited by royalty when HRH Prince Charles went there in July to learn about the manor’s recent £1 million conservation project.
