Islwyn High School pupils marked Down’s Syndrome Day by wearing odd socks

News | | Published: 17:00, Thursday April 5th, 2018.

Pupils and staff at Islwyn High School, near Oakdale, marked World Down’s Syndrome Day on Wednesday, March 21, by wearing odd socks.

An assembly was held with Year 9 pupil Matilda Burke speaking to her peers about her experience of Down’s Syndrome.
Pupils also managed to raise £187 for the Down’s Syndrome Association by paying 50p each to wear odd socks for the day.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement, said: “Well done to Islwyn High School for raising such a fantastic sum of money for the Down’s Syndrome Association, which will help to fund the association’s aim of helping people with Down’s Syndrome to live full and rewarding lives.”
