Carers’ Week is taking place from June 11 to June 17 and Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith will be hosting charities that support carers in the local area to raise awareness of their work.
The annual event has been designed to recognise the role of carers in our communities and highlight the challenges they face.
Sainsbury’s has supported Carers’ Week for the last eight years, as part of its commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
In the UK, 6.5 million people provide unpaid care to a loved one who is older, disabled or seriously ill. Carers UK give expert information and advice that’s tailored to meet carers’ specific needs, champion carers’ rights and develop innovative ways to make carers’ lives better.
Across the week, Alzheimer’s Society, St David’s Hospice and Caerphilly County Borough Council will be in store to talk to customers and colleagues about the work they do and to share details of support that is available for carers in the local area.
Kim John, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith, said: “Many of our customers and colleagues are carers, and this is an important event to recognise those that have caring responsibilities and to inform people about the help and support that is available to them.
We’re looking forward to inviting in a number of charities from the Caerphilly area into our store to raise awareness.”
Good to see awareness being raised – there are so many carers and the support and care they give goes unrecognised by many.
There are a lot of employers who offer no support to those with Carers responsibilities.
