Residents have expressed anger and frustration at housing association United Welsh over what they see as a lack of action to tackle fly-tipping on their estate.
Piles of rubbish have been repeatedly dumped on Mornington Meadows, in Caerphilly, sparking anger from residents who say United Welsh are not doing enough.
Last month used needles were even found in a nearby park.
Resident Joe Nash and others were so fed-up that they collected the rubbish from across the estate and park.
Mr Nash posted pictures of the rubbish and needles on Facebook and said: “United Welsh and Celtic Horizons are not doing what they are getting paid for, so we did it ourselves.
“When we found the syringe I called them and asked when can they come out and do a deep clean of the site.
“Their reply was ‘How long is a piece of string’ and that was the end of the call.
“It’s sick to think that this needle could have gone into someone’s child. It makes me sick and they are not even bothered about this.
“They are more concerned about their brand new estates.”
A United Welsh spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the issues at Mornington Meadows and continue to work in partnership with residents, the council and environmental health to tackle problems as they arise.
“We arranged for a specialist third party agency to clean up the needles. They were removed on Friday, May 18.
“A monthly estate walkabout was held on Monday, May 21, with PCSOs, community wardens and local community councillors and the local Neighbourhood Policing Team have agreed to increase patrols in the area.
“Fly-tipping is socially unacceptable and we regularly meet with residents to advise about appropriate waste disposal and to discuss and plan joint solutions to prevent issues, such as community clean-ups.
“We urge anyone who witnesses fly-tipping to please report it so that action can be taken to deal with those who are responsible.”
Disgusting utteraly discusting! Why dont us Brits take pride in our homes estates, instead we like to live with mess all around us. The people who dumb this should be fined heavily. There is no excuse for living like pigs
True, pigs though are much more intelligent than the cretins who do this. Sadly too many have zero respect for anything or anyone, bringing back National Service of some sort would most definitely reduce things like this from happening, or simply round them up, put them on a big boat and set it adrift in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
I’d support both those ideas – but I think National Service would be a tougher option for these morons.
John and Paul, don’t think the armed forces would want them.
These snowflakes would melt under any type of discipline.
That’s part of the problem – this country has become far too soft and tolerant in it’s attitude and now we are paying the price !
Yep, blame the lily-livered politically correct brigade,
I don’t think anyone would want them…..no good to man or beast.
Unfortunately, I’ve come to strongly associate the Welsh valleys with litter and rubbish. I find it very depressing.
A sad but true fact, I’m the same. I find it worst when I come back from holidays, it’s then it hits you more. We live in a beautiful place we need to look after it.
Yes, you go on holiday, often to countries far poorer than the UK and they are spotless with no litter anywhere, but you come home to litter everywhere – and there is absolutely no excuse for it !
People are too lazy to put their litter in the bin.
I recently went to Cornwall and remarked to my wife how much cleaner the roadsides were there. It’s a real shame that it stands in such stark contrast to the valleys.
I just dont know why we dont take pride in our areas, its a mystery to me.
it’s Mornington Meadows for you.
