Fire at builders’ merchants in Risca caused £50,000 worth of damage

A fire at a builders merchant in Risca caused damage worth up to £50,000, police have said.

While the cause of the fire at T G Howell and Sons on Clifton Street is still being investigated, Gwent Police have appealed for information to help with enquiries.

The fire is believed to have been started sometime between 5.30am and 6.30am on May 20.

Stacks of timber were burnt along with wooden sheds and electrical cables, with the cost of the damage estimated between £25,000 and £50,000.

    It’s difficult enough for businesses in the current financial climate – without having to suffer the consequences of acts of arson !
