Rogue trader warning in Risca

News | | Published: 13:01, Thursday June 14th, 2018.

Police are appealing for information following reports of rogue traders in Risca.

At around 1pm on Wednesday, June 6, two men approached an elderly home owner in Sycamore Crescent offering to clean paving slabs for £60.

A visitor who had arrived at the property intervened and it went no further.

Anyone with information should call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number 306 06/06/2018.

While there are Rogue Trader’s out there ,
We must also recognise there are genuine worker’s trying to earn a living,
£60 to clean Slabs seem’s a fair rate, even for the min amount of work.

It all depends on the context of of the story, £60 doesnt seem a lot but how big was the patio? What were they using to clean it? A good friend of mine got stung when they cleaned her patio £90 and all they did was wash it with washing up liquid. I agree there is hard working peoe out there and these are the people we must protect as well as the residents. It would help if we had some kind of registration of good workers, who we can trace if the work is sub standard, not a fly by night outfit

I agree, I cleaned the patio of a doctor in Cardiff two years back and charged £50. he was very happy with this price as his patio and off road parking area was huge. Maybe this persons was too, or it may have measured 100 sq feet, in which case the price was about three times what it should have been.

It should be made a criminal offence to make an unsolicited visit / cold call to any homeowner or resident.
This would help to protect our elderly and vulnerable residents.
While there are “No Cold Calling” areas – they do not cover all areas.
If residents want a service provided by a company or trader they can request a visit at a date and time convenient to the resident.
