Cyclists complete Hay-on-Wye to Bedwas charity ride with Shane Williams

Sport | | Published: 15:44, Thursday July 12th, 2018.

The 65-mile ride is in its sixth year.

A group of 32 cyclists from across South Wales have completed their annual charity bike ride from Hay-on-Wye to Bedwas Rugby Club.

Led by local Velindre Cancer Centre ambassador Trevor Isaac and former Welsh rugby international Shane Williams, the group completed the 65-mile ride from Hay-on-Wye on Saturday, 7 July.

Following the ride, now in its sixth year, Velindre patron Williams spent time at the club, where he met supporters and local junior players.

Kylie McKee, Deputy Head of Fundraising at Velindre Cancer Centre, said: “The Annual Hay-on-Wye to Bedwas Bike Ride that Trevor Isaac organises is always a fantastic event.

“This year we were extremely lucky to be joined by rugby legend and Velindre Patron Shane Williams, who was training for the Velindre West Coast Bike Ride in September.

“Although Shane is used to winning, he had to settle for second place this time as it was the girls from Velindre who won gold. They’ve promised to give him a head start next year if he comes back!“

Participants are already being encouraged to join the seventh ride next year, and can do so by contacting Bedwas RFC’s Commercial Manager, Lela Brewin, at lela.brewin@googlemail.com.

Anybody wishing to donate to the group’s fundraising efforts can do so at www.justgiving.com/trevor-isaac2

Shane Williams took part in the event, but was pipped to the finish line by the Velindre girls
