Free golf tuition for ladies and girls in Caerphilly is set to be launched as part of a Wales Golf initiative to get more people involved in the sport.

Caerphilly Golf Club will host its first free coaching session on Wednesday, 25 July. The hour-long sessions, hosted by club professional Kevin Davies, will run every Wednesday until the end of August.

Mr Davies said: “This is a great opportunity for ladies and girls to get involved in golf. This is a very friendly club and our ladies section is very welcoming.

“We have around forty female members at the club, a number that has risen over the last couple of years.”

The sessions are aimed at beginners and those who have never played golf before, and girls and ladies of all ages are welcome. Sessions are held on Wednesdays between 6pm and 7pm.

The initiative us supported through the sport’s governing body Wales Golf in an effort to get more women and girls involved in the sport in Wales.

Theo Baker of Wales Golf said: “This is a great low-cost introduction to the sport. Caerphilly have a great track record of attracting new players to the game. They are a great example of engagement to the rest of Wales.”

For more information, you can contact coach and PGA professional Kevin Davies at Caerphilly Gold Club on 02920 869104.

In a bonkers world of ridiculous political correctness isn’t this discriminating against men and boys?? I’m sure if it were free for men there would be women claiming it was sexist and discriminating………..only saying.

You are spot on. this is discriminating & illegal. But only if Golf Wales receives any public funding. Be surprised if they don’t. Any one add some light on this.?

Maybe one of the lovely new restaurants in the area could offer free cooking classes to all men and boys. I wouldn’t find that remotely discriminating at all. Just saying!

Neither would I – it doesn’t take long to upset a woman when it comes to discrimination does it. My point has been proven, I rest my case.

That’s a great idea Hayley, but let’s not be sexist and invite the women and girls too. There are an awfully large number that think cooking is heating up a ready meal.
