Bryn Meadows launches golf lessons for stroke survivors

News, Sport | | Published: 14:00, Tuesday July 24th, 2018.

Stroke survivors take part in the collaboration between Wales Golf and Stroke Association at Bryn Meadows Golf Club.

Bryn Meadows Golf Club has launched a project aimed at encouraging those who have survived a stroke to take up the sport of golf.

The scheme is part of a project between Wales Golf’s ‘New2Golf’ campaign and the Stroke Association.

It aims to highlight the accessibility of golf and demonstrate the benefits of the sport for those who have survived a stroke.

Bryn Meadows is one of ten facilities across Wales rolling out the scheme this season, with all offering free or low cost beginner group lessons tailored to stroke survivors.

Each course will provide participants with a dedicated inclusive golf professional, trained to adapt to individuals’ specific needs.

Bryn Meadows held its first session on Tuesday, July 17th and the scheme will run for 12 weeks in total.

Hannah McAllister, Wales Golf Director of Development said: “This year’s New2Golf campaign is all about tailoring golf to your needs and abilities. It is a pick and mix approach to the game and this is a perfect example of that.”

“Those who have survived a stroke often lack confidence to do what they did before the stroke or try anything new but the benefits for health and wellbeing we have seen through the pilot scheme have been overwhelming. We are excited to roll this out Wales wide so more stroke survivors can access these benefits.

“I’d encourage people to visit our website and determine their nearest participating club and go along. More clubs will be rolling out the scheme across the coming months and we hope each year there will be even more clubs signing up.”
