Councillors celebrate community litter pick in Pontllanfraith

News | | Published: 17:00, Tuesday July 24th, 2018.

The 1st Sirhowy Scout group were heavily represented at the litter-pick.

Residents of Pontllanfraith have taken part in a community litter-pick, aimed at addressing the problem of litter on the village’s Tram Road.

The event, held on Saturday, July 21, saw over twenty members of the local community take part, including members of the 1st Sirhowy Scout group.

Cllr Gez Kirby said: We are delighted that over 20 members of our local community met up to tackle the problem of litter. Special credit goes to the young, but very keen, members of the 1st Sirhowy Scout group, who worked really hard at collecting litter.

It is the second year that the event has been held, and following its success, organisers are planning a another litter-pick on the village’s Penllwyn in August and more in the future.

Cllr Mike Adams said: “It’s great that people are backing our ‘Pride in Pont’ efforts. As Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council this year, I’ve promised to give our volunteers a special mention at our next Council meeting.”
