Three students from Trinity Fields School in Ystrad Mynach have been awarded a qualification recognising their ability in sports leadership.

Teenagers Ian Wilkes-Evans, Sasha Maisey and Jason Stapleton, pictured below, were put forward for the qualification by the school and the council’s sports development team. It was the first class to be run for students with additional learning needs in the county.

The formal qualification means they can now lead and contribute to PE sessions and activities.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement said: “I would like to congratulate Ian, Sasha and Jason at Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre for achieving the Sport Leaders UK Level 1 Qualification.

“This is a great triumph that will provide the students with the courage and enthusiasm to develop leadership skills.”
