Caerphilly Labour Women’s Forum have raised £270 for Welsh Women’s Aid at a cake sale and coffee morning.

The event, held at the Twyn Community Centre in Caerphilly on Saturday, August 4, was part of the charity’s national Welshcakes for Women’s Aid campaign.

The event was attended by Wayne David MP and included a talk from a survivor of domestic abuse.

Anne Pettit, who helped organise the event, said: “We are so pleased to have such a lot of support from the community. It was the first event we have held for Women’s Aid and we are so pleased to support this good cause.”

The event’s organisers also thanked local businesses for contributing raffle prizes.

Eleri Butler, Chief Executive of Welsh Women’s Aid, said: “One in three women in Wales have experienced some form of physical or sexual violence, so it is clear that the work of Welsh Women’s Aid is as vital today as it was 40 years ago.

“We would like to thank everyone who is supporting this campaign for taking the time to raise money for, and speak out about, ending violence against women in Wales. It is something that touches so many lives.”
