Pontllanfraith boxer Kody Davies said he has his sights set on a British title shot after he extended his record to six wins from six fights at Ice Wales Arena in Cardiff on Saturday, August 3.
Davies beat Wiltshire’s Anthony Fox by unanimous decision over six rounds on Saturday, August 4, the first time the unbeaten prospect has fought over the distance.
The 24-year-old took the fight at just three weeks notice, and he told Caerphilly Observer the fight and its preparation was a learning curve.
Davies said: “I took some time off over the summer, so cutting the weight over three weeks was tough.
“It was great to be back in Wales after my last two fights have been in London. Cardiff is a lot easier for the fans to get to.
“I would like to thank god for everything, as well as my sponsors Topspec Motors, Batch Plant, Puro Fit Food and Mann Made Gym for their support.”
The Newbridge based boxer is trained by former World Champion Gavin Rees, who also has prospect Sean McGoldrick and Blackwood’s former European Champion Craig Evans at his Pantside Amateur Boxing Club.
The super-middleweight says he is now turning his attention to a title-shot in the not to distant future.
He has previously sparred with British World Champions George Groves and Callum Smith, and he says that experience is invaluable in his attempt to make it to the very top of the sport.
“The aim is go all the way to world level with Gavin [Rees]. I just have to trust the process that I believe will take me all the way.”
Davies fights again on Friday, September 7 at Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff, although his opponent is currently unnamed.
The MTK Global event also features World super-welterweight challenger Liam Williams and Newport’s McGoldrick.
Davies then intends to fight once more in November or December before targetting a British title shot in January or February next year.
The British Super-Middleweight title was vacated by Liverpool’s Rocky Fielding before he became World Champion in July.
The British super-middleweight division currently includes four world champions in James Degale, George Groves, Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding.
Below world level, unbeaten prospects like Edinburgh’s Tommy Philbin and London’s Lerrone Richards and Daryll Williams will also have their sights set on a title challenge next year.
Davies is currently ranked 18th in the UK super-middleweight division by Boxrec.com.
