A community litter pick in Senghenydd has been hailed a success after volunteers collected 40 bags of rubbish.
Jointly organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council and Keep Wales Tidy, the event took place on Thursday, August 2.
It was attended by staff and members of Senghenydd Youth Drop In Centre, the 1st Senghenydd Scout Group, the National Probation Service and community volunteers.
The clean-up was also used as an opportunity for the council to consult with residents on possible future improvements within the community. This initiative is part of the council’s Welsh Housing Quality Standard improvement programme, which includes environmental standards that aim to create communities where tenants feel proud to live.
Cllr John Taylor, who represents the Aber Valley ward, said: “This was a fantastic event that brought people together from across the community to improve the area of Senghenydd.
“Unfortunately, litter is a problem that continues across the borough but these events really show community spirit in trying to tackle the issues head on.”
Cabinet Member for Homes and Places, Cllr Lisa Phipps, said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who took part on the day and to Keep Wales Tidy for their support in co-coordinating the event.”
Well done to all…..but it’s a shame that this much litter was deposited by thoughtless idiots.
