Ahmedebad were winners on the day, and it is now hoped the fixture can be repeated on an annual basis

A youth cricket team in Blackwood have hosted an Indian touring side.

A select team from the junior section of Blackwood Town Cricket Club hosted a youth team from Ahmedebad Basu Cricket Club on Wednesday, August 22.

The Indian side are from the state of Gujarat, and were playing the first match of a 12 day tour of Wales.

Despite only arriving in the UK at 1am, Ahmedebad made light work of their hosts, despite a spirited effort by the Blackwood select side.

Blackwood posted a score of 107 in their 25 overs, with Dan Thomas top scoring with 21 runs

In reply, Ahmedabad reached the target for the loss of just three wickets.

Jeffrey Mudford, a junior coach at the club, said: “It was a great cricketing experience for both sides.

“The day saw skills of the highest calibre and wonderful food provided by our superb ladies. It made me so proud of our club, and I would like to thank everybody involved”.

The day was commemorated with the presentation of a plaque to Blackwood’s president, and a club tie to representatives of Ahmedebad.

It is now hoped that the fixture can be repeated on an annual basis.
