An 11-year-old pupil from Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni was knocked off his scooter as he made his way to school this morning, Friday, September 21.
The boy has been taken to hospital as a precaution and is believed not to have serious injuries. The collision happened at around 8.35am on Pontygwindy Road, Caerphilly, just outside the school entrance.
Cllr James Pritchard, who represents Morgan Jones Park ward, rang the school and contacted parents after being informed.
He said: “I spoke to the headteacher of YGG Caerfilli [which shares the site with Cwm Rhymni] this morning. He said a boy from the Y Gwyndy site had been knocked down on his scooter on Pontygwindy Road. He’s alive and three members of staff are with him at present. My thoughts are with the boy and his family and I hope things turn out to be okay.”
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “At 8.34am this morning, Gwent Police received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision with a young boy on Pontygwindy Road in Caerphilly.
“Officers and South Wales Ambulance Service attended the scene. The road was shut for a short period of time while paramedics treated the 11 year old boy. He was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
“The driver, a 19 year old woman from the local area is now assisting Gwent Police with their enquiries.”
• In an related incident this morning, a car and a bus collided in Abertridwr. The smash happened near the Abermill care home in Thomas Street at 7.55am. Gwent Police said there were no reports of serious injuries.
