Caerphilly Comic Con event raises £2,400 for charity Sense Cymru

News | | Published: 13:00, Wednesday October 3rd, 2018.

Batman, Joker and Darth Vader all dropped into Caerphilly town recently to help celebrate a donation to a disability support centre.

Caerphilly Comic Con, held in June this year at St Cenydd Leisure Centre, raised a total of £2,400 for charity Sense.

The money, which includes match-funding by bank Santander, went towards a new sensory room at the charity’s TouchBase Cymru centre on Caerphilly Business Park.

The centre, the first of its kind in Wales, provides specialist support and services for children and adults with sensory impairments and other disabilities. The official opening of the room took place on September 9 and was celebrated with an open day at the centre.

Caerphilly Comic Con organiser Vik Yadh said: “A huge thank you to all that came to the Caerphilly Comic Con in June. Thanks for the kind words and comments on the day.

“Also many thanks for the donations in all the buckets, your kind support in buying from our tuck shop and finally the bidding war during the charity auction. That was a lot of fun.”

As part of the fundraising efforts, Vik also ran the Newport Marathon and led a Lord of the Rings-inspired trek up Pen-y-Fan dressed as Gandalf, see picture below.
