Staff working at a One Stop store have helped raise £2,416 for Velindre Cancer Centre.

Together with friends, the staff of the Markham One Stop took part in a recent 13-mile walk from Nantgarw to Cardiff.

Emma Griffiths, customer service assistant at the store, said: “It was hard and included a two-mile detour. But it was a fantastic day.

“This is the third walk we have organised now since 2016 and we are holding one every year in support of our colleague that lost her partner to cancer and also was diagnosed herself with cancer in the same year.

“Velindre have been amazing with her and her family and we wanted to show how much we appreciated what they do, our colleague is doing fantastic now thanks to them.

“This year our final total was £2,416.40 taking our total fundraising for Velindre since 2016 to more than £7,000 which is amazing for a small village.

“We are so grateful for the support in our fundraising from our community – customers, family and also from local businesses that have donated for our raffles.

“We need to get our heads together again now to plan for next year.”
