An apprenticeship fair held in Risca is set to become an annual event, according to Islwyn MP Chris Evans.

Mr Evans organised an apprenticeship fair on Thursday, November 15, with the help of Careers Wales and has announced it will become an annual event.

The fair took place at Risca Leisure Centre and was attended by over 700 students from across Gwent.

More than 50 employers including Barclays Bank, BAE systems and the Armed forces were on hand to tell pupils about various apprenticeships on offer.

Mr Evans said: “It was an absolutely brilliant event. I am delighted this will now be an annual event. Careers Wales, who organised this event with my office, have been absolutely fantastic.”

After the event Mr Evans said: “It is so important that young people are given an opportunity to see all of their options, so that they can make an informed choice for their future.”

John Kendall, headteacher of Risca Comprehensive Community School, whose pupils attended the fair, said: “It’s really important they are made aware of the wealth of opportunities available to them and I‘d like to thank all the exhibitors who gave up their time. It was a very enjoyable and really informative event and I hope it can become an annual one here in Risca.”
