New apprenticeship scheme to begin in Ystrad Mynach

News | Rhys Williams | Published: 12:30, Monday December 10th, 2018.

The drylining apprenticeship scheme will take place at the Coleg y Cymoedd campus in Ystrad Mynach.

A new drylining apprenticeship course will begin in January at Coleg y Cymoedd’s Ystrad Mynach campus.

The college is working in partnership with apprenticeship scheme Y Prentis, who will be looking to recruit eight apprentices.

The two-year apprenticeship course will start on Friday, January 25.

Drylining is the process of cladding internal walls and ceilings and requires less expertise than traditional plastering.

Students will study towards a Level 2 Diploma in Interior Systems and an NVQ Level 2 in Drylining.

Darryl Williams, Progamme Manager at Y Prentis, said: “It’s great that we’re able to expand into the drylining trade in partnership with Coleg y Cymoedd and local contractors to deliver these apprenticeships.”

He added: “There’s a growing demand for more skilled labour in the industry, so we’re delighted to be able to support people to get the skills they need and take advantage of these job opportunities.”
