A television documentary on the life and career of Caerphilly-born Tommy Cooper will be shown on Channel Five at 9.15pm on Christmas Day.

Sir Michael Parkinson, Jimmy Tarbuck and Chris Tarrant are among the famous names who will be reflecting on the Caerphilly-born comedian.

Tommy Cooper – In His Own Words charts Cooper’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming Britain’s highest-paid comedian.

Family and friends also share their stories about the 1970s comedy sensation, while his daughter Vicky gives her first ever television interview.

The show, which has been produced by ITN Productions, will also feature classic highlights from Cooper’s career and rare archive footage.

Cooper was born in Caerphilly in 1921 but spent much of his youth living in Devon.

He went on to become one of the UK’s best-known entertainers during the height of his fame.

The much-loved comic died of a heart attack on stage in London in 1984, with many in the audience initially believing it was part of his act.

The Tommy Cooper Society, who were founded in his memory and raised funds for his statue to be erected in Caerphilly town centre, are currently fundraising for life-saving heart defibrillators to be placed in and around Caerphilly as part of their Tommy’s Ticker campaign
