A new ‘adventure hub’ is set to open in the spring at Cwmcarn Forest.

Work to build the £150,000 play area is currently underway and Caerphilly County Borough Council say the development is just one of many that will happen at the site over the coming year.

The play area, which will have a climbing wall, slides, and swings, is being built near the visitor centre.

It has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and is the first scheme to be undertaken as part of a major £4.6 million EU-backed project – the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal Adventure Triangle – which is being delivered by Caerphilly County Borough Council, Torfaen County Borough Council and Welsh Government.

Caerphilly County Borough is set to benefit from more than £1.8m capital investment over the next three years.

Future projects include further enhancements at Cwmcarn Forest, such as new glamping accommodation and cycle trails, infrastructure works to the Crumlin arm of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, and improvements to trails linking Twmbarlwm to west Torfaen.

Cllr Sean Morgan, the council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for tourism, said: “There are already a wealth of leisure and recreation facilities available for families at Cwmcarn Forest – from cycle and walking trails to picnic areas and a campsite.

“This new adventure hub will enhance these facilities and provide a link between the existing play areas, encouraging families to get more active in the outdoors.”
