Seven terrorists involved in a beach attack that killed a holidaying Blackwood women have been sentenced to life in prison by Tunisian authorities.

Trudy Jones, from Blackwood, was among 38 people killed in the attack on a beach by the Imperial Marhaba Hotel, near Sousse on June 26, 2015.

The seven terrorists have been sentenced for their roles in the beach massacre and a linked attack on a museum in the capital, Tunis.

Ms Jones was a 51-year-old mother of four and grandmother of eight who worked as a carer at Highfield Nursing Home in Blackwood.

According to colleagues, she was a “lively and popular” member of staff who was devoted to the people in her care.

Tunisian student Seifeddine Rezgui, 23, who had reported links with Islamic State, opened fire on tourists. He then entered at least one of the hotel lobbies and detonated grenades before walking through the streets firing at locals who were chasing him. He was eventually shot dead by police.

There were two separate trials – one covering the beach attack and the other covering the Bardo Museum attack.

In the Sousse trial, four militants were given life sentences, while five others were sentenced to between six months and 16 years.

In the Bardo trial, three defendants received life terms and a number of others were jailed for shorter periods. Ten were acquitted.
