A dog has been found dead in a plastic bin bag near a rugby field in Aberbargoed.
The RSPCA were called on Saturday, February 9 after the dog’s decomposing body was discovered on the mountainside near the Commin Road area.
It is not yet known what happened to the dog or why it was dumped.
RSPCA inspector Simon Evans said: “We’d like to thank the member of public who called us about this awful discovery that would have been extremely distressing to find.
“The black and white dog – which may have been a collie – was found without its head and neck, and as the bag had been ripped open the carcass has been scavenged.
“Before the bag had been ripped, it had been secured used two white plastic cable ties.”
Inspector Evans added: “It’s not clear whether the dog has died in suspicious circumstances or of natural causes and the body has then been dumped, but we’d like to find out.
“If anyone knows where the dog may have come from, or may have seen something in the area, we’d really like to hear from them.
“Anyone with any information which could help our investigation should contact the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
