A long-distance walking challenge will be coming to Caerphilly.

The Caerphilly Challenge Series will take place on Saturday, May 11.

Participants can chose to walk either ten miles, 16 miles or 21 miles around the scenic landscape of the Caerphilly basin.

The walks includes a variety of different landscapes, including hilltops, farmland, riversides and woodlands.

The challenge starts and finishes at St Martin’s Comprehensive School.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the event must book before Wednesday, May 1.

The challenge costs £10 to enter, while anyone under the age of 18 can enter for £8.

The minimum age to enter the challenge is 12.

Dogs will be allowed to take part, providing they are on a lead, while water will be available at each checkpoint.

There will also be a five mile walk, which will cost £2 to enter and won’t require any prior booking. The walk will be open to people of all ages.

The proceeds raised from the event will go towards Matthew Walklin’s Make a Smile Foundation.

The foundation aims to improve the support available for cancer patients.

The charity, which is based in Blackwood, was chosen by Caerphilly County Borough Mayor, Cllr Mike Adams,

The event is being run by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside and Landscape Service and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, along with Caerphilly Adventure Group, Caerphilly Ramblers, Islwyn Ramblers and St Martin’s Comprehensive School. The event is sponsored by cleaning-product producer Nikwax.
