Fly-tipping on Rudry Common

Residents have expressed anger and frustration over fly-tipping on Rudry Common.

Pamela James, from Caerphilly, was walking on the common on Sunday, March 3 when she discovered litter strewn across the landscape.

Ms James told Caerphilly Observer: “It’s horrible to see that sort of mess there.

“Sadly we regularly see litter, smashed glass and burned tents on the common.”

Ms James, who is a landscape photographer, said: “I’ve spent years trying to photograph nice bits of Caerphilly, but the litter ruins it.

“I often have to clear the litter myself before taking photos.

“It makes me want to cry. There needs to be more monitoring or patrolling to stop this happening.”

A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “We take a tough stance in the war against fly-tipping and we always press for a prosecution whenever evidence is found.

“Our enforcement team work hard, but there are obviously large areas of common land and open countryside in this area, which is unfortunately targeted by an inconsiderate minority.

“The key message is for people to be considerate and respect our beautiful countryside and to be vigilant and report any sightings to the council so that we can take appropriate action.”
