Blackwood Little Theatre concert for teenager with life-limiting condition

News | Rhys Williams | Published: 15:00, Friday March 29th, 2019.

Taisha Taylor, 15, from Newbridge is set to have surgery in Newcastle

Blackwood Little Theatre will be staging a charity concert at 7pm on Saturday, April 6 to help raise money for one of their Youth Theatre members who has a life-limiting condition.

Taisha Taylor, 15, from Newbridge will have potentially life-saving surgery for Chronic Granulomatous Disease in Newcastle next month.

However, Taisha’s family need to find £5,000 for accommodation fees.

Nicola Taylor, Taisha’s mother said “We have been totally overwhelmed from the support given by Blackwood Little Theatre (BLT). The response and generosity people have shown is incredible. Taisha’s condition and treatment has been unknown to so many, including friends and the offering of help, support and wishes from people is something on another level, something that we had never imagined or would have believed.

“We cannot thank everyone enough for everything.

“Taisha will be away from the theatre for a long time, but she will be getting strong and healthy, ready to return to BLT, back to her friends and theatre family.”

Neil Maidman, chairman of Blackwood Little Theatre, said: “Taisha is such a lovely and unassuming young lady, who loves her time at rehearsals and performing in our shows.

“When we heard about not only the medical challenges that she was facing, but that the charity that was funding her family accommodation had to withdraw its support, we knew that we had to help.”

Mr Maidman added: “BLT faces its own challenges, in maintaining and repairing its building but there are some things that are more important to support.

“Our recent audiences, members and patrons have been brilliant in making donations and local businesses have got behind our campaign and have been so generous.

“We are looking forward to the concert on April 6, which the B Younger Generation has been rehearsing so hard for, and then being able to help Taisha and her family at this most difficult time.”

Tickets cost £5 and can be bought online at www.blackwoodlt.org.uk/tickets or by calling the box office on 01495 366196.
