The mother of a 13-year-old boy who died after being found unconscious in Ystrad Mynach Park has made an emotional plea to police to find the person who sold her son drugs.

Lewis School Pengam pupil Carson Price, 13, was taken to University Hospital Wales on Friday, where he was pronounced dead. Emergency services were called to the park after Carson was found at around 7.20pm on Friday, April 12.

Commenting on a public Gwent Police Facebook appeal post, Carson’s mother Tatum Chynene Price wrote: “Please help find out he [sic] sold these drugs to my son…my life is ruined my baby gone.”

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the incident and are treating the boy’s death as unexplained.

The Sun newspaper has suggested that Carson had been sold a “homemade” ecstasy tablet, but this has not been confirmed by police.

Carson’s headteacher at Lewis School Pengam, Chris Parry, yesterday spoke of the school’s shock at the 13-year-old’s death.

He said: “It is with immense sadness that today we have heard the terrible news that one of our pupils has tragically passed away.

“Everyone in our school is shocked and devastated by the loss of one of our own.

“We will be providing support for all pupils and staff touched by this terrible news in the weeks and months ahead but in the meantime, I’m sure everyone in our community will join with us in sharing our deepest sympathies with the pupil’s friends and family at this awful time.

“We hope they will be given the space to grieve.”

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Payne, who is leading on the investigation said: “I’d like to appeal to anyone who can assist with our investigation. If you have information that could help, please call us on 101 quoting log 523 12/4/19 or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
