A woman from Bedwas has organised a charity walk for Parkinson’s UK on Sunday, May 26.
Victoria Isaac, 23, is organising the two-mile walk in memory of her grandfather, Robert Prosser, who died in 2017 after a 22-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Mr Prosser, who worked as a police officer for 27 years, was married to Angela for nearly 50 years and the couple had one daughter and four grandchildren together.
The walk, which will start at 9am, is expected to last about an hour and will take place on Mountain View Ranch on Caerphilly Mountain.
There will be space for 200 people to take part in the walk, which will cost £5 to enter.
Children are also welcome to take part and there will be a mascot at the finishing line to pose for photos.
The walk will be pram-friendly, while the first mile of the walk will be wheelchair-friendly.
Miss Isaac, who is hoping to raise £500, said: “I’m really nervous, it’s been quite stressful to organise.
“My five-year-old daughter, Ella, took part in the Parkinson’s UK national walk in Cardiff bay with family last year and raised over £300. She was so proud of herself.
“Ella was very close to her great-granddad and was very switched on about Parkinson’s disease.
“Even though she’s five, she’s been a big help in helping me organise this walk.”
Miss Isaac has asked participants to be at the ranch by 8.45am.
The event will go ahead regardless of the weather.
Miss Isaac is looking for volunteers who will be willing to stand at various points along the route of the walk to hand out bottles of water and to give encouragement.
She said: “We have seven volunteers so far but I would like to have between ten and 15.”
