Police are investigating after a man was found in the middle of the road in the early hours of the morning.

A member of the public called Gwent Police at around 1.55am on Sunday, May 12, after a man was spotted in Pontygwindy Road, Caerphilly.

Earlier reports suggested the man may have been hit by a car, but this has not been confirmed by Gwent Police or the Welsh Ambulance Service.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “In the early hours of Sunday morning, at approximately 1.55am, officers were called to a report of a concern for welfare of an unknown man found on Pontygwindy Road in Caerphilly.

“Officers and ambulance attended and a 31 year old man from the Trethomas area was taken to the Heath Hospital with a minor head injury. He has since been released from hospital.

“Officers are investigating and asking anyone with any information regarding this incident to call 101, quoting log: 47 12/05/19.”

A Welsh Ambulance spokesman said he could not confirm if the man was hit by a car, only that he had suffered a blow to the head.

Gwent Police closed the road for several hours following the incident, which they described on Facebook as “serious” at the time, and had a cordon in place on Sunday morning.
