Stagecoach has unveiled 24 new ‘gold’ buses to operate on routes in and out of Blackwood.
The £4 million investment will see the new vehicles operate on the 151 Blackwood to Newport and the 26 Blackwood to Cardiff services.
The company has said the new buses are all fitted with environmentally-friendly Euro VI engines with low carbon emissions, and the most up-to-date CCTV equipment.
They also feature the latest tracking technology, allowing customers to access the Stagecoach mobile app to track their bus, free wi-fi and USB charging points for mobile devices.
Nigel Winter, Managing Director of Stagecoach in South Wales, said: “Buses are critical to our region’s economy and communities. They take people to work, bring customers to our high streets, help young people access education and bring families, friends and communities together.
“As well as providing better travel for local people, with contactless and mobile payments on all services, these vehicles will improve local air quality and help reduce congestion in Newport by providing a high quality alternative to the car.”
Cllr Sean Morgan, deputy leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “We warmly welcome this significant investment, which as well as providing enhanced public transport for our residents, commuters and visitors, will also help deliver real environmental benefits. We must commend our partners Stagecoach for their on-going commitment and investment to providing genuine alternatives to travelling by car in order to access employment and leisure opportunities.”
