Georgia Stephens has raised £1,300

An eight-year-old girl from Llanbradach has shaved her hair to raise £1,300 for charity.

Georgia Stephens was inspired to cut her hair when she saw children with cancer on television.

Georgia was concerned that children with cancer, who have had to shave their heads, were being bullied at school.

The eight-year-old asked her mother if she could cut her hair and donate it to be made into a wig.

Georgia went online and read on the Little Princess Trust website that each wig costs £550 to make.

Georgia had 15 inches of her hair chopped off at 50 Shades hair studio in Caerphilly, who have worked with the Little Princess Trust charity in the past.

Georgia raised money through an online fundraising page and received support from a number of local businesses, including Dai Inks tattoo shop, Hart Construction and Savera cafe.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s school held a non-uniform day to help raise money for the cause.

Georgia’s mother, Rachel Hart, said: “At first we ignored her when she said she wanted to cut her hair. We didn’t really think she was serious.

“When her father said no, Georgia cried her eyes out and we realised how much she wanted to do this.”

When it came to having her hair cut, Georgia was nervous, so her mother also had her hair cut at the same time.

Ms Hart added: “We’re ever so proud. Georgia was determined to raise £550.

“She had the biggest smile on her face when she was having her hair cut and tells everyone what she did. She’s really proud of herself.”

Ms Hart continued: “We’re surprised with how much money has been raised. Everyone got behind us and we’re blown away by it all.”

Joanne Knott, who owns 50 Shades hair studio, cut Georgia’s hair and said: “I’ve known Georgia since she was tiny. She was very excited and happy she was helping someone else.

“She had the biggest grin on her face and she was happy with her hair.”
