Rhymney Valley Schools under 11s rugby team have won the WRU plate final.

The side, which is made up of 18 players from ten different schools across the Rhymney Valley, beat North East Wales in the final, which was played in Llanidloes, Mid Wales on Thursday, May 23.

They won the game 30-25, outscoring their opponents by six tries to five.

Rhymney Valley had beaten Bridgend Schools in the semi final to reach the final.

North East Wales provided strong opposition on the day and didn’t give up without a fight.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s facilities manager, Alun Ford, said: “A huge well done to all the squad on their achievement and a massive thank you to the coaching staff headed up by Director of Rugby – Tim Jones.”
