A school in the Darran Valley has been praised by education watchdog Estyn following an inspection.

The school was rated as ‘good’ across the five key areas of Standards; Wellbeing and attitudes to learning; Teaching and learning experiences; Care, support and guidance; and Leadership and management.

The report of March’s inspection says: “Successful teaching across the school ensures a positive working relationship between pupils, teachers and learning assistants.”

It also highlights the school’s “engagement” with parents and its community.

Headteacher Paul Hamer was praised for establishing a clear vision for the school which focuses on supporting pupils’ wellbeing and raising standards.

He said: “We are extremely delighted and pleased with the positive inspection report.

“The report reflects the hard work and dedication of all the staff and the resilience and enthusiasm of our pupils.

“Our parents and carers are fully engaged and play a supportive role in the life of the school – they have celebrated the work of the children fully.

Mr Hamer added: “Our governors have been proactive in supporting and challenging the school.

“It is a privilege and honour to work within such a committed team. I am exceedingly proud that the school has deservedly been recognised in such a public way.

“The inspection report gives a true picture of the work of the whole school and provides a positive image of our Deri Family School.”

Dawn Bowden AM said: “it was a delight to join the pupils, staff and Headteacher Mr Hamer to congratulate them on their recent success.

“Anyone connected with a school knows the effort involved with an Estyn inspection and it is great to see the school get such a positive report. Well done to everyone involved.”
