Rugby clubs gear up for start of the season

Rugby clubs in Caerphilly County Borough are gearing up for the start of the Specsavers Championship.

The season will get underway at 2.30pm on Saturday, September 7, with Bargoed taking on Cardiff Met away from home.

Elsewhere in the championship, Bedwas will welcome Cross Keys to the Bridgefield on Sunday, September 8 at 2pm.

The three Caerphilly County Borough sides were all relegated from the Principality Premiership last season and will be hoping to earn promotion back into the top tier.

The final games of the season are set to be played on Saturday, May 2, with Bedwas hosting Bargoed and Cross Keys taking on Pontypool away from home.

Meanwhile, recently-relegated Newbridge will begin life in the Specsavers Division One East with an away trip to Nelson.

Elsewhere on opening day, Senghenydd will play Dowlais away from home, Risca will host Brynmawr and Penallta will travel to Monmouth.
