Weekend of live music, comedy and arts as Rudry Music Festival returns for a fourth year

News | Rhys Williams | Published: 18:45, Friday July 5th, 2019.

Rudry Music Festival will be returning for a fourth year

Rudry Music Festival will be returning for its fourth year on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13.

The family-friendly event, which will be held in the grounds of Rudry Parish Hall, will feature a lineup of live music, comedy, arts and crafts and historical activities.

The proceeds from the festival, which is run by volunteers, will go back into the local community, as well as to mental health charity SANE.

Festival Director Chris Allender said: “The idea for a festival in Rudry goes back to 2010. It had been a lovely summer’s day and after an evening of music, fun and frolics in Rudry Hall, a close friend and I were finishing off a beer and taking in the last of the sun.

“‘Wouldn’t this just be the perfect venue for a music festival?’ one of us said.

“Well it took a few years, and very sadly my friend is no longer with us, but in Rudry Music Festival the legacy of a drunken evening and the memory of a very special friend will live on – as he would have had it – through music, friends and fun.

“Our partnership with SANE is very close to our hearts and we hope, through the Festival’s fundraising activities, that we can do something to help people facing mental health issues.”

Mr Allender added: “This year’s live music highlights include Friday night performances from Cardiff’s own Junior Bill, The Resonant Rogues and the Easy Stride Band.

“Then, on Saturday, there will be a real mix of contemporary, alternative and traditional artists, including local band The Rumble Strutters, Katel Keineg, Gaz Brookfield, Rainbow Maniac, Funke and the Two Toned Baby, and many more.

“Our headliners, Cardiff’s own Captain Accident and the Disasters, will no doubt have the crowd jumping and round off what promises to be a fantastic Saturday.

There will be live music from local performers at the festival

“Rudry Music Festival is a great weekend of entertainment for all the family.”

There will be a bar selling local real ales, as well as a pop-up prosecco and gin bar and a number of street food stalls at the festival.

Mr Allender said: “Away from the music and comedy tents, we will have lots going on with yoga sessions, wildlife walks, science workshops, circus skills workshops and story telling in the woods.

“If you fancy a behind-the-scenes experience, we are also currently recruiting volunteers and would love to hear from anyone willing to work eight hours over the festival weekend in exchange for a free ticket to the event.”

The event will start at 6pm and finish at 11pm on the Friday, while on the Saturday, the festival will run from midday to midnight.
