Kerry Morgan, 40, was killed at New Tredegar Rugby Club

Tributes have been paid to the 40-year-old man who was killed following an “altercation” at New Tredegar Rugby Club on Saturday, July 6.

The man has been named by police as Kerry Morgan, who was from the New Tredegar area.

The family of Mr Morgan have released the following statement: “We are heartbroken, he was our life and the love of my life.

“He was the most wonderful, kind and loving husband and father. He was the best dada in the world.

“He will be with us every day, always in our hearts and missed dearly. We love you to infinity.”

Mr Morgan was found unconscious and not breathing when police arrived at the rugby club.

A 41-year-old man and a 61-year-old man, both from the Caerphilly area, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Gwent Police said they have since been released under investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Wilkie, who is leading the investigation, said: “Officers are investigating the circumstances that took place on Saturday night. We are aware of local speculation in the community surrounding the use of weapons during this incident and I’d like to reassure people that this is not the case.”

Anyone with information can contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 620 of 6/7/19. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
