A music duo recently described by BBC Radio 2 as “two of the most extraordinary musicians” will be performing at Blackwood Miners’ Institute.
India Electric Co will begin their UK tour at the Grade II listed venue on Tuesday, September 3.
Known for using traditional instruments in contemporary styles, the folk duo is made up of Joseph O’Keefe and Cole Stacey, who are both from Devon.
The group has explored themes from Eastern Europe, traditional Irish music and modern urban music.
The duo have been supporting and accompanying Scottish singer-songwriter Midge Ure, formerly of new wave band Ultravox, on his tour over the last 18 months. The tour has seen them perform across Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Multi-instrumentalist O’Keefe said: “It will be a special night for us to begin the tour in Wales and specifically here in Blackwood given the role rural traditions and folk songs have played in the material we have released over the last two years.”
Meanwhile, Stacey, who has family ties to south Wales, admitted they were looking forward to their pre-show hike on the Brecon Beacons.
The group released their debut album, The Girl I Left Behind Me, in 2015.
They have since released three EPs and performed live on BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music, as well as at Glastonbury and the Cambridge Folk Festival.
