Children in Maesycwmmer have been busy during the holiday period at their summer playscheme.

The scheme, which ran each week from Monday to Thursday over the school holidays, accommodates up to 60 children aged between five and 11 years old.

The scheme is organised each year by Maesycwmmer Community Council and is part-funded by the National Lottery.

As part of the scheme, children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, such as arts and crafts, a day of slime making with the Slime Factory, an interactive story telling workshop and a visit from Animal Encounters to learn all about wild animals.

Children can also take part in Zumba sessions and meet famous characters from children’s television and books.

The scheme has been visited by community councillors Anthony Joynes, Maureen Harries, Clive Williams and Robin Woodyatt, as well as Islwyn MP Chris Evans.

Mr Evans MP said: “I always enjoy visiting the Maesycwmmer playscheme. It is a brilliant place for children to spend time over the summer.

“This play scheme is another event which demonstrates the community spirit of Maesycwmmer.”

The scheme was held at Maesycwmmer Community Centre, with the last session held on Thursday, August 15.

The scheme finished with a big celebration, which included a talent show.
