Pirate festival coming to Llancaiach Fawr

News | Rhys Williams | Published: 06:50, Friday August 16th, 2019.

A pirate festival will be held at Llancaiach Fawr

The Brotherhood of the Black Pirate Festival will be held at Llancaiach Fawr, near Nelson, from Friday, August 30 and Sunday, September 1.

There will be a host of family-friendly activities, such as historical re-enactments, history tents, storytelling, traditional games and a variety of entertainment, such as live music and ferret racing.

Visitors will have the chance to learn swordcraft at the 16th century manor house.

There will also be a number of trade stalls serving beer, rum, cider, crafts and more.

The weekend of events kicks off on the Friday, with an evening pirate party and bar.

Campers can arrive and set up their tents on the Friday, while traders can set up their stalls from Wednesday, August 28.

Dressing up in fancy dress is encouraged but not a requirement.

Adult tickets cost £6 for one day, while weekend tickets, which allows entry to the Friday night party, as well as the Saturday and Sunday events, cost £11 per person.

A child’s day ticket costs £3, with a weekend ticket costing £5.

Children aged five and under can go for free.

A family ticket costs £18 for one day and £35 for the weekend.

Meanwhile, camping costs £25 per tent for the whole weekend, while children under 17 can camp for free with adults.

Camping can only be booked in advance and campers will have access to fresh water, toilets, hot food, hot drinks, bars and free parking.

Fires and barbecues are allowed and campers are permitted to bring their own food.

Dogs are also welcome, but must be kept on a lead at all times.
