Fochriw cash machine made free to use

The cash machine at Fochriw Village Store has been made free to use following a campaign from Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney MP Gerald Jones and Dawn Bowden AM.

Link, which operates the UK’s cash machine network, has removed the £2 fee and agreed to provide subsidies to cover the costs.

Since the closure of Lloyds Bank in Rhymney earlier this year, residents have had little access to free ATMs in the Upper Rhymney Valley.

Mr Jones MP said: “Dawn Bowden AM and I are delighted that we were able to continue our work with Link, and secure free access to cash for everyone in Fochriw.

“Many people in our area still rely on cash to pay for everyday expenses, and should not have to pay when they want to withdraw some, or travel miles to find a machine that is free to use.

“Dawn and I are looking forward to continuing to work with Link to secure more free to use machines across the Upper Rhymney Valley, including in Brithdir, Tirphil, New Tredegar and Abertysswg.”

John Howells, CEO of Link, said: “We’re pleased to have worked with Gerald Jones MP and Dawn Bowden AM to ensure that the cash machine in Fochriw is now free to use for the whole community.”
